When Rubens bought the land for the house in 1610, he counted on his gardeners Willem and Jasper to look after it. Numerous local residents also provided the place with flowers and plants. The garden of the Rubens House belonged to the people and will continue to do so in the future.
The flower garden will be a private courtyard, a hortus conclusus as it is so beautifully called, designed by Ars Horti in cooperation with the Heritage Agency and with colour advice from Belgian fashion designer Dries Van Noten. The only pivotal figure who is still missing, is you, the gardener of the garden.
In order to start planting the new museum garden from October onwards, we are counting on gardeners to make the garden grow and blossom, just as Rubens did. Your contribution will be invested in redesigning the garden. We will plant flower bulbs, perennials, whole shrubs and trees in the garden of the Rubens House. A real gift for growth.
